The Future of Reading

How tablets will change magazines

11.03

Posted in Media

As you may know, I’m currently involved in three magazine titles as a final editor. Therefore, the upcoming iPad and how it will change magazines and the way they operate, really interests me.

“Media are changing. As they get mashed up with other media, newer forms are born” - Josh Quittner

I recently found an article in Fortune Magazine entitled The Future of Reading. Author Josh Quittner raises a couple of interesting questions. Will anyone be willing to pay for content delivered to a tablet when they can get information for free on the web? Can traditional publishing companies reorganize and move fast enough to embrace and serve new platforms? I’m afraid the future of magazines is going to be very exciting. Oh, dear…
