Digital Playground

Crazy Birds started out as a digital business card for Amsterdam based entrepreneur Gijs van der Togt, trained as an urban sociologist and experienced in media, concept development and (copy) writing. After working for several media companies, the urge to develop something new emerged. Crazy Birds, a daily updated digital playground for a savvy audience was born. Nowadays fuelled with help from contributors in media, music, fashion and art.

There’s no good content without smart partnerships. For us, collaboration is crucial. Therefore, we are always on the look out for promising artists creating new, exciting things. Crazy Birds is a platform for advertising agencies, media companies, record companies and ofcourse brands to highlight their products. Do mind we only curate good things. Meet Mayer Hawthorne

When we found out promising soul artist Mayer Hawthorne was in town, we got excited and decided to do a short film about him with help from our friends at Mamamess and Rush Hour.

Viral

We strongly believe in content-driven short films, made from the heart. Because we discovered this artist in an early stage, the amount of attention from various print magazines and internet-media was overwhelming.

Blackmagic by Jose James

Friendswelove sprak met soulzanger Jose James, die begin volgend jaar met Blackmagic komt. In de film zitten een aantal snippets van dit tweede album van de zanger. Ik heb trouwens de eerste vijf tracks mogen horen. Die klonken meer dan goed. Briljant zelfs. Ik twijfel er dan ook geen moment aan dat dit de grootste jazzrelease van volgend jaar wordt. Helemaal niet gek als je bedenkt dat elite-producers zoals Moodymann, Flying Lotus, DJ Mitsu the Beats en Benga zich ermee hebben bemoeid. Volgend jaar is eigendom van JJ. De man met die fluwelen soulstem.

Van de door Flying Lotus geproduceerde eerste single Blackmagic, zijn een aantal remixen uit, ondermeer de Joy Orbison’s Recreation, geproduceerd door new kid Joy Orbison.

Felix & Simon Dit zijn Felix Buxton en Simon Ratcliff. Ik sprak ze een tijd geleden voor het helaas ter ziele blad BG Magazine. Aardige, creatieve jongens met een goed gevoel voor kleur. Loop alle albumcovers van Basement Jaxx de afgelopen jaren er nog maar eens op na.

Mamiko Motto

Mamiko Motto Mamiko Motto is producer van de Hepcat radioshow. Haar liefde voor hiphop, jazz, soul en cosmic beats deed haar op jonge leeftijd de wereld rondvliegen (Londen, Sydney, Tokio). Nu is zij in Amsterdam beland, en is zij naast het Crazy Birds HQ bij Kindred Spirits ondergebracht. Ook tourt zij de wereld rond als support-act van Hudson Mohawke. Luister naar haar Future Vintage set, met een nieuwe track van diezelfde Hudson Mohawke en daarnaast Dam-Funk, Dimlite en James Pants.
