Social Soundmachine

Deze week was op ik op bezoek bij designer Ramon Schreuder, de maker van de Social Soundmachine. Een interactieve tafel, waarbij mensen samen muziek maken door fysieke speelstukken te laten bewegen. Ramon wil met dit project laten zien dat hij met digitale producten mensen fysiek bij elkaar kan brengen. Goed bezig, want de Amsterdammer is genomineerd voor een Dutch Design Award. 

Maar hoe werkt de Social Soundmachine nou eigenlijk? Onder de tafel bevindt zich een camera, die als het ware door het projectiescherm heen kijkt. Het scherm zelf wordt verlicht door infrarode lampen. Zodra je er een speelstuk (met barcode onderop) legt, herkent de computer de code en wordt er een beat of melodie gestart. Ondermeer Arjuna Schiks en 100% Isis zorgen voor de diverse sounds waar je mee kunt spelen.

The media and a Kyteman

The media and a Kyteman De Utrechtse trompettist Colin Benders, ofwel Kyteman mailde mij onlangs wat ik toch niet goed vond aan zijn muziek. In principe is dat niet zoveel, al geef ik direct toe dat het orkestrale element mij niet zo ligt. Het komt me bij vlagen nogal geforceerd over, te happy chaotisch. Maar de voornaamste reden dat ik niet sta te springen bij een act als Kyteman, is eigenlijk de standaardreactie van veel journalisten.
