Digital Playground

Crazy Birds started out as a digital business card for Amsterdam based entrepreneur Gijs van der Togt, trained as an urban sociologist and experienced in media, concept development and (copy) writing. After working for several media companies, the urge to develop something new emerged. Crazy Birds, a daily updated digital playground for a savvy audience was born. Nowadays fuelled with help from contributors in media, music, fashion and art.

There’s no good content without smart partnerships. For us, collaboration is crucial. Therefore, we are always on the look out for promising artists creating new, exciting things. Crazy Birds is a platform for advertising agencies, media companies, record companies and ofcourse brands to highlight their products. Do mind we only curate good things. Meet Mayer Hawthorne

When we found out promising soul artist Mayer Hawthorne was in town, we got excited and decided to do a short film about him with help from our friends at Mamamess and Rush Hour.

Viral

We strongly believe in content-driven short films, made from the heart. Because we discovered this artist in an early stage, the amount of attention from various print magazines and internet-media was overwhelming.

Weinig woorden, meer dan genoeg nieuwe nummers. Afgelopen maandag eigenlijk gepland. Maar goed, ik wist dat er vandaag bijzondere dingen uit zouden komen. Zoals Alicia Keys, die op Empire State of Mind II het nummer in een herkansing gooit. Maar ook met Floating Points, die Sebastien Tellier’s L’Amour et la Violence verbouwd. Er is een buzz rondom de band Yeasayer (zie foto), vooral in Engeland. Ik moet er nog een beetje inkomen, maar Ambling Up is wel een hele interessante track. Lupe Fiasco komt binnenkort met een nieuw album uit, getiteld Lasers. Morgen komt hij met een speciale mixtape, daarvan komt zijn Angel (remix) van Dirty Money. Een van de tracks van het moment. Meer shorties…

J*DaVeY komt ook met een nieuwe track: Outta the Window. Weet jij welke sample daarin wordt gebruikt, reageer dan even. Beluister hierna Bloc Party met Where is Home (Burial remix). Je sluit af met Lykke Li, die de Shirelles klassieker Will You Still Love me Tomorrow covert. Tot slot: Joy Orbison. Een jonge producer die ik in de gaten houd. Beluister even BRKLN CLLN.

Shorties Niet alleen Kanye was goed bezig deze week, en dan heb ik het niet over het slopen van een camera op een vliegveld. Ik was ook verrast door de nieuwe clip van Q-Tip, die trouwens druk aan het repeteren is met A Tribe Called Quest op dit moment.

Astro Travelling

Astro Travelling Het is niet zo dat ik nou elke week de Future Vintage radioshow ga zitten pluggen, maar de Astro Travelling mix van producer I.N.T kan je gewoon niet missen. Daarop staan tracks van ondermeer Floating Points, Sun Ra J*Davey en Dr Who Dat. I.N.T. is de producer achter La Melodia, de band van Melodee, ex-buurvrouw van Crazy Birds. Zij klinkt op de mix trouwens buitenaards schor.
