Digital Playground

Crazy Birds started out as a digital business card for Amsterdam based entrepreneur Gijs van der Togt, trained as an urban sociologist and experienced in media, concept development and (copy) writing. After working for several media companies, the urge to develop something new emerged. Crazy Birds, a daily updated digital playground for a savvy audience was born. Nowadays fuelled with help from contributors in media, music, fashion and art.

There’s no good content without smart partnerships. For us, collaboration is crucial. Therefore, we are always on the look out for promising artists creating new, exciting things. Crazy Birds is a platform for advertising agencies, media companies, record companies and ofcourse brands to highlight their products. Do mind we only curate good things. Meet Mayer Hawthorne

When we found out promising soul artist Mayer Hawthorne was in town, we got excited and decided to do a short film about him with help from our friends at Mamamess and Rush Hour.

We strongly believe in content-driven short films, made from the heart. Because we discovered this artist in an early stage, the amount of attention from various print magazines and internet-media was overwhelming.

Op regenachtige dagen, na een onrustige nacht dankzij een volle maan, zal je maar zo in een melodramatische bui terecht komen. Een album van Damien Rice opzetten, is dan een prima oplossing. Maar ik heb een alternatief ontdekt: Peter Broderick & Machinefabriek, een Berlijnse muzikant die samen met het Rotterdamse Machinefabriek de prachtige plaat Blank Grey Canvas Sky maakte. Dit levert een experimenteel en sfeervol geheel op, op de rand van ambient. Maar soms ook met zang. Afijn, ik werd er in ieder geval niet vrolijker van, maar een prachtig geheel is het wel. Beluister een aantal tracks van dit album. Eerst Homecoming, daarna Rain. Ben je dan nog wakker, sluit dan af met Planes.

Koop het album Blank Grey Canvas Sky bij Diogenes Music. Ik zeg, doen. Ambient wordt ondertussen in 2010 groot, een keiharde comeback.

Music & Bits: Film It Yourself Zoals je weet, blijf ik graag op de hoogte van muzikale ontwikkelingen op het web. Ik was dan ook op bezoek bij Music & Bits, een spinoff van The Next Web. De komende dagen ga ik elke dag dieper in op een nieuwe start-up die zich op deze conferentie presenteerde, te beginnen met Film It Yourself. Dit nieuwe concept van 3voor12 combineert beeld van mobieltjes met opgenomen geluid. Een soort van Fabchannel voor amateurs dus.

Human Chain Prachtige nieuwe reclame van Wieden & Kennedy Nike, over het uithoudings- en doorzettingsvermogen van sporters. Een commercial in de traditie van de slogan Just do It. Ondermeer Maria Sharapova, Lance Armstrong en vechter Rampage Jackson doen aan de reclamefilm mee. Mocht je je afvragen van wie de muziek komt: de Britse band The Hours.
