Als je mijn music blog in Blend Magazine onlangs hebt gelezen, weet je dat ik Shafiq Husayn (van Sa-Ra Creative Partners) hoog heb zitten. Greg the Dude maakte mij erop attent dat hij Shafiq’s eerste video Lil’ Girl heeft geregisseerd. Het resultaat is prachtig, en past volgens mij heel erg goed bij de muziek van de eigenzinnige Amerikaan. Gastoptredens komen van Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli en Jay Electronica. 

Meer Shafiq Husayn: Nirvana en The U.N. Plan. Zijn door mij hoog gewaardeerde album En’ A Free Ka haal je bij Rush Hour of via iTunes.

Major Lazer

Major Lazer Producer Diplo, die het de laatste tijd druk heeft met het geven van moeilijke peace signs maar die je ook kent van de albums van M.I.A, komt met een nieuw muzikaal project. Hij doet dit samen met DJ Switch. Eind juni verschijnt onder het alterego Major Lazer het album Guns Don't Kill People, But Lazers Do. Een soort reggae, dancehall 21e eeuw-trip met vrouwelijke oorlogsveteranen als M.I.A. en Santigold achter de microfoon. Het album werd opgenomen in diverse Jamaicaanse studio’s. Dan weet je als het goed is hoe laat het is.
