Dame Dash x Creative Control

Hiphop-entrepreneur Damon Dash is zo iemand die gewoon doet wat die leuk vindt, no matter what. Ik hou van die man. Gewoon gaan, en als het niets wordt - dan ga je gewoon weer wat anders doen. Zo heeft hij recent het filmproductie bedrijf Creative Control opgezet. Met daarop veel behind-the-scenes materiaal (check Blakroc, Erykah Badu) en zo nu en dan een clip, zoals de laatste Gil Scott-Heron.

Verder realiseerde hij de creatieve hotspot 24 Hour Karate School, waar regelmatig exposities plaatsvinden. Damon lijkt zich te realiseren dat in deze tijd van recessie, creativiteit de doorslag gaat geven. Goed, lees even het interview dat Dazed Digital met deze excentrieke hiphop mogul had. Alleen al om die geniale quotes onmisbaar.

    Misschien was het voor je stukje wel een goed idee geweest om even te verwijzen naar Roc-a-Fela. Toch wel een van de grondleggers van het label.

The Sa-Ra Creative Partners (Nuclear Evolution) Ik heb een beetje een haat-liefde verhouding met Om'Mas Keith, Taz Arnold en Shafiq Husayn, op het podium The Sa-Ra Creative Partners. Dat zal ik je uitleggen. Al sinds het einde van de jaren negentig is dit drietal bij elkaar, en van vooral de EP The Second Time Around (met name de hit Glorious) werd ik jaren geleden alweer erg blij. Door met name door die atypische vocalen, ongewone effecten en lome funk.

Living the Dream Hij heeft de mooiste stem van de hele wereld. Dat meen ik. José James sprak ik jaren geleden, toen zijn debuut The Dreamer uitkwam. Ik wist toen niet wat ik hoorde. Geweldige stem, prachtige jazz akkoorden. Over twee weken komt de opvolger uit, getiteld Blackmagic. Wat mij betreft minstens zo goed.
