As you probably may know by now, the Appelsap Fresh Music festival in Amsterdam on July 31st will probably be one of the musical highlights of the summer. With artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Benny Sings, Random Axe, Lunice and The Blessings on board, we obviously can’t wait. To ease your impatience, we compiled a mix which features our highlights of the festival. Later this month, we’re throwing away a couple of free packages including tickets for the festival and the infamous afterparky. Hot damn, in a download or stream the mix in the cloud, after the jump.

Every now and then we’d like to give creative people the chance to compile their own Future Nest. This week we asked Maurice Ajanaku, editor in chief of online lifestyle magazine AJANAKU to highlight his current favorites. His selection is a real roller coaster ride combining some of the biggest names in music (Kanye West, Wale) with local artists (Kern Koppen, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig) and ending the mix with soulful Nigerian stuff. Enter mr. Ajanaku’s world, download this week’s special edition. You can find the tracklist in the comments.

We selected some new (really good) tracks of his upcoming album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy for our weekly playlist. Future Nest Vol. 15 also features new material by Flying Lotus, Brandt Brauer Frick, Magnetic Man, Ramadanman and James Blake. Let’s face it, a download is inevitable. Stay ahead of the curve. This weekend, we strongly recommend you to go to the Birdfest festival. A place for true jazz and soul lovers, organized at Rotterdam’s future hotspot, the Bergweg station. Philip Powel (as featured on this week’s cover) is the musical mastermind behind Birdfest. He is the owner of John106 and best known for his KISS parties (together with Dimbrowski) in Amsterdam and recently decided to open a new place called Bird, this is the first event at the new restaurant and club. He managed to attract artists like Kaidi Tatham, Norman Jay and Christian Prommer. Especially for us, Phil compiled a selection of his favorite tunes, including tracks by all performing artists. Get with the program, download this week’s playlist; Future Nest (Birdfest edition), curated by Philip Powel. Tracklist via the comments. Photography by Manja Stroomer.
