Crazy Birds

A 21st century guide to new music, art, media and lifestyle. In a digital world where so many new things can be discovered, this is the place where the good things in life collide.

Digital Playground

Crazy Birds started out as a digital business card for Amsterdam based entrepreneur Gijs van der Togt, trained as an urban sociologist and experienced in media, concept development and (copy) writing. After working for several media companies, the urge to develop something new emerged. Crazy Birds, a daily updated digital playground for a savvy audience was born. Nowadays fuelled with help from contributors in media, music, fashion and art.

Partnerships

There’s no good content without smart partnerships. For us, collaboration is crucial. Therefore, we are always on the look out for promising artists creating new, exciting things. Crazy Birds is a platform for advertising agencies, media companies, record companies and ofcourse brands to highlight their products. Do mind we only curate good things. Check the projects section for more information.

Meet Mayer Hawthorne

When we found out promising soul artist Mayer Hawthorne was in town, we got excited and decided to do a short film about him with help from our friends at Mamamess and Rush Hour.

Viral

We strongly believe in content-driven short films, made from the heart. Because we discovered this artist in an early stage, the amount of attention from various print magazines and internet-media was overwhelming.

Win tickets for Tokimonsta

10.03

Posted in Events

A while ago, I mentioned something about Tokimonsta and the fact she never performed in my city. Well, the boys from music blog Moovmnt were thinking the same. They invited this talented girl from the mighty Brainfeeder label to deejay in Bitterzoet this Sunday at a party called Bckwld. Meet Toki by listening to her The Attention Deficit Mixtape, reworking classic hiphop tracks. I’m giving away some guestlist for Buckwild. Just send me an email. No problem…

Pitchfork x Broken Bells

Live session of the most exciting band this year

10.03

Posted in Music

Today marks the release of Broken Bells. The debut album of indie band Broken Bells featuring artist–producer Danger Mouse and James Mercer, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Portland indie rock band The Shins. We think it’s the best album of the year, so far. Above you can find the first live session by Pitchfork. A true must have. You can still listen to the complete album at 3VOOR12. Buy the debut at the iTunes Store. Festivals of summer, be ready.

Record Makers

10th Anniversary iPhone App

09.03

Posted in Art + Culture

Daniel from one of my favorite Parisian labels Record Makers sent me a special 10th anniversary gift. Their free to download Record Makers iPhone App, conceived by French contemporary artists Mrzyk & Moriceau, provides the user with a surrealistic visual game, an exquisite corpse in the vein of French surrealism. With one finger, you can create your own sounds and images, and with the right combination you win a stay in the fancy Hotel Amour a Paris. Check this video, to see how it works. They also released a special 10th anniversary compilation you can find in the iTunes Store, including some essential tracks by Sébastien Tellier.

Ti$a Vi$ion

Innovative fashion by Sa-Ra Partner

09.03

Posted in Style

Taz Arnold is one the forces behind supadupa hiphop group Sa-Ra Creative Partners. He’s got that unique and innovative approach in music, but is also one of the most creative people in fashion. That guy really knows what to wear. TI$A Vi$ion is his latest project. A brand that combines mediums of art, design and fashion. For a better impression of Ti$a, check out their grammy party at LeMirrors above, featuring Kid Cudi, Kelis and Taz himself. And wait, are those new, exciting beats by Sa-Ra?

Gonjasufi

A Sufi and a Killer

08.03

Posted in Music

This is something special. Gonjasufi is a new artist on the infamous warp label, produced by Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer and Mainframe. His heavily endorsed debut A Sufi and a Killer came out last week. And yes, you need to buy it.

”Gonjasufi is timeless incredible filth” - Flying Lotus

Gonjasufi is a self proclaimed mystical individual caught between the Mojave desert, the LA streets and somewhere more cosmic. A Sufi and a Killer contains some great soul-baring vocals and fine production. After the jump I’ll host some tracks, including the first single Ancestors – produced by FlyLo, with a Madlib sound.

FS Green

Track of the Day Mix

Posted in Mixtapes

If it’s a FS beat, it’s good. FS Green, a talented producer from Amsterdam, just finished a new album together with rapper Önder entitled De Kassier, with lots of exciting soulful beats on it. For music blog Yes Yes Yall the man picked his twenty favorite tracks of last year. The Track of the Day Mix features songs ranging from soul to beats, dubstep, rock, hiphop and everything in between. Nice to see Nosaj Thing and Four Tet on the tracklist.

Over

New Drake single

‘Over’ reminds me of that one party you can’t remember the next day. But trust me, you will remember this song. The hook is crazy.

“I know way too many people here right now, that I didn’t know last year. Who the fuck are y’all? - Drake (Over, 2010)”

It’s the official single off Drake’s much-anticipated debut album Thank Me Later which is set to release March 30th. We’re already calling it Drake day. After the jump, I’ll host the track plus this great Nosaj Thing remix that’s in my head all weekend.

A Spaceship for Now

RJD2's weird and surreal world

Posted in Music

After The Glow, Philly’s RJD2 surprises me with another weird but entertaining video. You can find A Spaceship For Now on his recently released album The Colossus, which we heavily endorse. Check the video, then buy the album. It will make your day a bit more sunnier
