A Sufi and a Killer

This is something special. Gonjasufi is a new artist on the infamous warp label, produced by Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer and Mainframe. His heavily endorsed debut A Sufi and a Killer came out last week. And yes, you need to buy it.
”Gonjasufi is timeless incredible filth” - Flying Lotus
Gonjasufi is a self proclaimed mystical individual caught between the Mojave desert, the LA streets and somewhere more cosmic. A Sufi and a Killer contains some great soul-baring vocals and fine production. After the jump I’ll host some tracks, including the first single Ancestors – produced by FlyLo, with a Madlib sound.

If it’s a FS beat, it’s good. FS Green, a talented producer from Amsterdam, just finished a new album together with rapper Önder entitled De Kassier, with lots of exciting soulful beats on it. For music blog Yes Yes Yall the man picked his twenty favorite tracks of last year. The Track of the Day Mix features songs ranging from soul to beats, dubstep, rock, hiphop and everything in between. Nice to see Nosaj Thing and Four Tet on the tracklist.

‘Over’ reminds me of that one party you can’t remember the next day. But trust me, you will remember this song. The hook is crazy.
“I know way too many people here right now, that I didn’t know last year. Who the fuck are y’all? - Drake (Over, 2010)”
It’s the official single off Drake’s much-anticipated debut album Thank Me Later which is set to release March 30th. We’re already calling it Drake day. After the jump, I’ll host the track plus this great Nosaj Thing remix that’s in my head all weekend.

After The Glow, Philly’s RJD2 surprises me with another weird but entertaining video. You can find A Spaceship For Now on his recently released album The Colossus, which we heavily endorse. Check the video, then buy the album. It will make your day a bit more sunnier
RBMA's Most Valuable Assets

I just got this excellent mixtape in my mailbox from the friendly people from Moovmnt, containing unreleased material from RBMA. For over a decade the Red Bull Music Academy has given young, upcoming artists a place to develop themselves. Not only do they learn, but a very important part of the RBMA is creating and exposing. The result is a compilation album together with fellow participants as well as more established musicians and sometimes even legends. Don’t sleep on this great mix. Download or listen to it after the jump.

After a great night at 5 Days Off with Flying Lotus, Nosaj Thing and Four Tet, tonight get’s even better. The man with the mask, best known as Doom, is my highlight of the festival. I could describe Daniel Dumile’s sound, tell you he’s one of the most talented rappers around, talk a little bit about his mask and the imposters, but you know what. Just have a listen to all his classic tracks. After the jump I’ll host the MF Doomed Mixtape. It’s doomsday, be ready for the mask.
Can a man be born again?

Today I read this interesting blog post on Evil Monito about Kanye West and this disturbing trend on the internet to hate the guy. True, he did some stupid things your drunk fourteen year old brother would probably do. And yes, he and his girlfriend Amber Rose are sometimes a little bit too creative. But come on internet people, he didn’t kill Taylor. Give the man some credits. He’s the same guy that created Through the Wire, remember? Meanwhile, Kanye launched a fresh, minimalistic blog and is working on a new album, probably blowing all the haters away. Doing what he’s always doing: being creative, curating good stuff, producing influential music.

I always thought when you’re depressed, the last thing girls do is notice you. Well, not if you are a part-time fashion-icon, super likeable guy and internationally acknowledged soul singer. Mayer Hawthorne, we envy you. Some guys got to have it all. When watching, don’t get depressed.
